9 issues in roads
Doctors Court Extension to Oviedo Boulevard
The city wants to build a 1,500-foot connector road through wetlands between Doctors Court and Oviedo Boulevard, near Jackson Heights Middle School. It would cut emergency response times and give families a second way in and out of the neighborhood — but it costs about $2.8 million plus right-of-way from four parcels, and it eats into wetlands requiring $130,000 in mitigation.
Back-Up-Into-Angle-Parking Ban Repealed
The city's old code bans backing into angle parking — exactly what drivers must do at the new reverse angle spaces on Citizens Lane. Deleting the rule keeps drivers out of technical violation.
Mitchell Hammett corridor safety improvements
The city locked in a $1.5 million state grant for a raised median, wider sidewalk, and drainage work on what staff called one of the city's most dangerous stretches of road.
Citizens Lane Completion Update
The Citizens Lane road project is scheduled to be substantially complete August 3 and fully done within weeks after — and it's still on budget despite delays.
Franklin Street Extension Progress
The CRA committed $49,125.53 toward replacing 22 failing crepe myrtles on E. Franklin Street with sable palms — the poor drainage and tight soil cells killed most of the old trees. The $136,940.94 project goes to Ovation Construction through a city-CRA MOU.
CR 426 sidewalk connection to Shane Kelly Park
A new 1,000-foot sidewalk segment along CR 426 will connect Shane Kelly Park's northern entrance to Lockwood Boulevard, passing 3-2 after debate over whether the money should fix existing broken sidewalks instead.
Pedestrian safety on Reformation Way cut-through
A Kingsbridge West resident asked for a complete sidewalk on Reformation Way, a popular walking and biking route to Stenstrom Elementary that currently forces pedestrians into the street or parking lots.
Oviedo Mall Boulevard / Dovera Drive intersection improvements
The dead traffic signal at this intersection is coming out. The project replaces it with solar-powered stop signs and revised striping so traffic moves better and pedestrians stay safe.
Lockwood Boulevard Bridge Safety
Councilmember Britton again pushed for safety fixes on the curve near the Lockwood Boulevard bridge; Public Works says bollards won't fit and is reviewing options like pavement markers.
