Emergency Management Tour
Monroe County's mayor and emergency leaders toured Flamingo, a remote Everglades spot that's tough to reach but important when disasters hit. The point is simple: get officials' eyes on the ground so response plans aren't just theory.
Fire Station Construction
Monroe County is tearing down and rebuilding Fire Station #10 on Sugarloaf Key as a bigger two-story facility. The payoff is better fire response for the Keys, but nearby residents and drivers should expect some construction disruption while work is underway.
New fire SCBA equipment purchase
The Fire District board bought ~$994,000 in new Draeger self-contained breathing apparatus because 2024 state legislation made the old Scott packs non-compliant and they were already at end of life. The new packs last 10-14 years and can be serviced in-house.
