Nature Walk Subdivision land-use amendment
A failed golf course off Highway 390 could become a 116-home subdivision, and the whole neighborhood showed up to push back. Residents worry about traffic on already-congested 390, construction trucks through their streets, drainage into Mill Bayou and the Landings, kids' safety near the Meadows park, and losing the only affordable public golf course this side of the bridge. The commission tabled the decision to December 1 to research a similar 2015 proposal that was unanimously denied.
Loss of the only public golf course west of the bridge
Commissioners previewed a large development proposal (the golf course property) expected within a couple of months. Residents are worried about traffic on quiet connecting roads; a similar 2015 request was approved by the Planning Commission but fizzled before reaching the Commission.
Mill Bayou Boulevard drainage
Growth around Mill Bayou — the county's roundabout, a new apartment complex — created drainage problems on the city side, now fixed with a $197,269 contract to the low bidder, approved 4-1.
Highway 390 congestion and traffic safety
A resident warned that children crossing near Bay Haven Elementary are a safety hazard and liability risk — no crossing guard, kids cutting through a no-trespass clinic lot. He asked the city to involve the school board or a resource officer.
