Okeechobee Road self-storage redevelopment
A package of land use, rezoning, variance and alley-closure approvals lets a property owner build a self-storage facility with ground-floor retail next to a 90-year-old resident's home. Supporters say it quiets truck traffic and adds tax value; opponents say it eliminates housing-suitable land and their neighborhood complaints remain unresolved.
Condo association burdens and resident outreach
Owners at Courtyard Manors described alleged HOA fraud, unpaid contractors, and dangerous building conditions. The mayor announced an executive order creating a condominium task force with the state DBPR, with a public session Monday, March 16.
Vocational school at 550 West 84th Street
ABC Institute's vocational and technical school got final approval with far fewer parking spaces than code requires. Neighbors' concerns about students parking on the street are addressed through a decal system and a recorded declaration making any right-of-way parking a code enforcement issue tied to the property.
RV and boat storage lot at 1550 West 60 Street
Westland Baptist Church wants to convert vacant land under FPL power lines into an 81-space RV and boat storage lot. Neighbors say it will bring noise, traffic, flooding risk, and could later become full commercial development; the council approved it 4-3 with heavy restrictions.
