Special Events Calendar 2026-2027
The Tarpon Springs Merchants Association's annual festival was up for approval for November 7-8, 2026, closing several streets around the Sponge Docks. Expect detours and crowds that weekend.
Library Services and Remodeling Project
The Library Board was scheduled to present its annual report, showing strong program participation and big changes coming in early 2027 — new study rooms, a preservation lab, 3D printer, and sensory space. Residents who use the library will see expanded services.
Nov. 7 symposium "Planting the Seeds for a Growing Future"
Committee members with long histories in youth gardening proposed following the November symposium with school gardens and horticulture career pathways for young people who may not need a college degree.
Parks and Recreation Master Plan completion in-house
The city is ending its consultant contract early, saving about $131,220, and finishing the parks master plan with its own staff. Residents could see the plan move slower but the city keeps its roadmap for parks improvements.
New Municipal Golf Course Clubhouse
A new 8,536-square-foot clubhouse will replace the aging one at the Tarpon Springs Golf Course, built through a construction-manager-at-risk process with construction hoped to start in June and take 10-12 months.
Splash park subsidy and aquatics cost recovery
The free splash park costs about $140,000 a year to run, and Commissioner Eisner — the lone vote against making it free — wants the board to revisit charging admission given the budget crunch.
Riverside Drive tennis court conditions
The reversed courts on Riverside Drive were pulled up after failing, leaving rough surfaces, rusted fences, no benches, and no shade — yet the courts still see heavy play. A 20-year resident asked for repairs or at least the benches back.
Illuminated Art Boxes — Installed but Rusting
The new artwork is finally up in the art boxes at the Sponge Docks and artists are being paid. But the boxes themselves are starting to corrode, and replacing all 40 someday could be a significant expense from the art fund.
Dorsett Park Black Heritage Project Sculpture — Complete
The Cocharuti mural replacement is moving forward after a vinyl supply hiccup, with squared edges and a protective frame. Separately, a member wants the Edward Dorset photo and title sign moved to the front of the sponge exhibit for better visibility.
Public Works 'Bleacher' Building Mural
A roughly 1,750-square-foot mural is planned for the Public Works building, with a seascape on one side and renderings of the department's services on the other. Instead of setting a stipend, the city will ask artists to propose their own fees, with submissions due May 15.
Storm Drain Mural Project Expansion
Four mural designs were chosen for storm drains around town, each carrying the 'only rain down the drain' message. A typo will be fixed before installation, and members urged artist signatures and community vetting.
Economic Development Building Mural
A new mural is coming to the Economic Development Building at 59 West Tarpon Avenue, with artists invited to imagine the Spring Bayou and Craig Park — from historic times through today. The committee wrestled with how much direction to give artists before settling on open-ended language.
Sunset Beach Conditions and Pinellas Trail Safety
Commissioners flagged dangerous e-bike speeds on the Pinellas Trail and downtown sidewalks, and the mayor said he'll ask the city attorney to research regulations like Clearwater's.
