Housing Section Comprehensive Plan update
The Housing Section update passed unanimously; the Coastal Management Section — which governs development in flood-prone areas — drew Carlson's dissent. Both face final adoption November 19.
Affordable accessory dwelling unit pilot in East Tampa
The board wants a pilot program to build affordable accessory dwelling units on eligible East Tampa properties, working with city departments and the school district — a possible new path to more affordable housing.
Dr. Walter L. Smith Library restoration
The CRA is putting up to $1.19 million of West Tampa redevelopment money into renovating the historic Smith Library and Museum. It covers up to half the hard construction costs.
5600 Mariner Street rezoning denial
Neighbors packed the hearing on a plan to replace an office site with multifamily housing and commercial uses. Council unanimously agreed the requested waivers — less parking, smaller docks, thinner buffers — didn't fit the surrounding residential neighborhood.
Affordable housing grant agreements (Domo Cass Square and Heritage Heights)
The CRA put grant money behind two affordable housing developments — one downtown and one in East Tampa — covering nine parcels in Heritage Heights alone. These agreements fund construction of housing aimed at residents priced out of the market.
