6 issues in roads with high priority
A1A/Beach Boulevard drainage and River to Sea Loop
Citizens for Safety speakers asked the county to release engineering studies and reconsider the Suntrail/Beach Boulevard trail alignment after recent flooding submerged A1A. Public Works said crews are addressing drainage across the county and will meet with St. Augustine Beach.
US-1/CR 210 Intersection Improvements Grant
The county is chasing nearly $56.5 million in federal grants for major road and bridge projects — the CR 2209/210 corridor, the Town Branch bridge on CR 208, and a rail signal upgrade. Approval costs nothing but positions the county for big money if awarded.
US 1 restricted crossing U-turn safety concerns
Madeira and Tennis Village residents say FDOT's U-turn design on US 1 forces hundreds of families into dangerous turns into high-speed traffic, based on outdated traffic counts. They asked the county to formally object and demand FDOT hold a public hearing.
Beach trolley and coastal management funding
The county faces roughly $90 million over five years for the South Ponte Vedra Army Corps coastal project — currently unfunded — plus tens of millions more for other renourishment. A $3.5 million beach trolley could improve federal cost-share and add mobility.
Flagler Estates roads, drainage and recreation
After 4.5 miles of road improvements this year, the Flagler Estates CRA has about $400,000 in draft funding for more roads, drainage, lighting and playground work. A resident pushed for wildlife-aware entrance signs and better hurricane evacuation routes across Deep Creek.
Pavement management costs and fuel prices
Asphalt costs have jumped over 50% in five years — from about $90 to $175–$180 a ton — so the same paving budget buys roughly half the road treatments if fuel keeps climbing.
