3 issues in taxes budget with medium priority
Golf course lease negotiation
The golf course operator wants a 70-year lease paying about $5,000 a year — down from $5,000 a month — plus free water. The council balked at the length and the price but wants a full financial package before deciding, worried about losing the amenity if the operator walks.
Kings Crest and Cane Break special assessments
After the county terminated the old MSTU when these neighborhoods were annexed, streetlights were set to go dark October 1. The special assessments — $32,712 for Kings Crest and $14,477 for Cane Break — keep lights and landscaping on, with 61% of Cane Break residents supporting by door-to-door survey.
Council community support (sponsorship) policy
After a long debate, the council agreed to create a policy giving each member $10,000 per year for nonprofit sponsorships (max $1,500 per organization) and $5,000 for event tables, with reporting requirements. Council Member Urban objected to spending taxpayer money on sponsorships.
