6 issues in roads with high priority
Hillview Drive drainage improvements
The Hillview Drive drainage project got a $1.06 million change order and 210 more days on its construction timeline — work meant to fix flooding in the area.
Moving Seminole — Public Works & Mass Transit
Ridership has doubled since replacing Lynx routes and the county is saving $1.7 million a year. Fares are being tweaked: cheaper SunRail connections, pricier peak trips for non-discounted riders.
Oxford Road sidewalk stormwater project delays
Residents of English Estates told the Board the long-running contractor project is unsafe, behind schedule, and unsupervised. Public Works pushed back, saying three to four crews are on site and the project remains on track for completion by year-end.
Ronald Reagan Boulevard dirt road safety and Lot 14 development
Neighbors on a narrow private dirt road off busy Ronald Reagan Boulevard say a house on the corner Lot 14 would destroy their sight lines and force them to stop in traffic. The Board ruled it could only weigh lot size and width, not access, and approved the variances 3-1.
McCulloch Road corridor planning
Orange County wants to widen McCulloch Road near UCF — a $33 million, 1.1-mile project. Seminole commissioners worried about floodplain impacts on the West Hampton community, the congested SR 434 intersection, and any future bridge over the Econ River; Bill Hyde of Geneva said just say no.
SR 417 Sanford Airport Connector Funding
The Board quietly moved $25 million in infrastructure sales tax money to the Central Florida Expressway Authority for the SR 417 Sanford Airport Connector, which Commissioner Constantine noted passed the CFX board unanimously last week. County money was needed to pass the feasibility study, and Commissioner Zembower highlighted the relief it will bring to Lake Mary Boulevard access.
