3 issues in development with high priority
Lealman CRA growth and land acquisition
Commissioners Scott and Eggers flagged hesitation about the Largo CRA — estimated to cost the county over $1 million a year (~$23 million over 20 years) — and warned more CRAs are coming from Tarpon Springs and others, pressing counties to fund gaps cities could cover themselves.
Downtown Clearwater government property sale
The county is deciding what to do with its downtown Clearwater land — sell it or lease it to a developer. Residents pushed hard for public input and lease structures that keep public control; commissioners agreed to two April town halls and delayed any surplus declaration to April 7.
Pine Street Largo density increase denied
The board refused to double allowed density on 18 acres — a former construction-debris landfill — from 138 to 276 units. Neighbors cited gridlocked roads and contamination fears; commissioners weighed the state's Live Local Act, which could let the developer bypass local review entirely.
