Paceline sidewalk easement in Palm City
Paceline Assets will build a sidewalk along SW Thelma Street in Palm City, with part of it in county right-of-way, as a condition of its office site plan approval.
MARTY transit service shutdown
The MARTY bus contractor walked off the job without notice, stranding riders who depend on buses for work, dialysis and school. United Way's Lyft-based Ride United program is a stopgap, and the county is negotiating with MTM Transit to restart full service within a year while pursuing damages.
$5.9 Million Beach Restroom Project Questioned
A commissioner flagged the ~$5.9 million replacement of a fire-destroyed beachside restroom/cafe/dune crossover complex as a 'wants versus needs' red flag, especially with tax reform looming. Others countered that beaches are the county's biggest revenue engine and the project must be replaced. The board can still shrink the scope before September.
Port Salerno Peninsula resurfacing
A $1.13 million contract with LP Asphalt will resurface the Port Salerno Peninsula.
Brightline station location and cost
Vice Chair Ciampi stunned colleagues by asking staff to reopen negotiations on moving the Brightline station from downtown Stuart to the county-owned fairgrounds, citing a price tag that has ballooned toward $87 million, FEC concerns about the St. Lucie River Bridge, and Brightline's shaky finances. Hetherington and Heard agreed to keep evaluating all options before the county's 2027 opt-out deadline.
