10 issues in roads with medium priority
Road resurfacing and CR 466A widening
Committee member Tim Kyle flagged Orange Avenue as an increasingly used cut-through needing a resurfacing refresh, though staff noted that funding would come from Public Works, not the CRA.
Speed limit reduction request on CR 437
Committee member Francis Morris again pushed to lower speed limits where new sidewalks are planned, citing the comprehensive plan's traffic-calming language. Staff reported Public Works says it can't be done for now.
Transit facility feasibility and partnerships
A new partner — the Nicholas family of companies — wants to design, build, operate and maintain an expo center at the fairgrounds site with a $10 million county cap. Commissioners split on whether it's rushed, but agreed to pursue the P3 with competitive bidding plus a parallel RFP for an open-air arena.
Round Lake Road Extension right-of-way
The county is spending $2.749 million to buy right-of-way from Wolf Branch LLC for the Round Lake Road Extension — one piece of a future north-south connector to SR 44. Commissioner Morris pushed back on the cost versus eminent domain.
Monte Vista/SR 50 traffic congestion
Growth in Orange County's Kelly Park area and the 429 connection are funneling more traffic through the CR 46 corridor, adding urgency to infrastructure improvements.
Sorrento roundabout design
The roundabout is about 90% designed, with TIF dollars covering the in-CRA portion of design and engineering. Construction funding isn't secured yet — staff is hunting for grants.
SR 44 traffic safety
A resident raised dangerous curves without warning signs between Pine Lakes and Cassia and asked about widening SR 44. The county can't put up signs on a state road but will route concerns to FDOT, which has done a safety study; Public Works director Mike Olka will meet with the resident.
East Crooked Lake Drive traffic controls
After years of complaints, stop signs, four speed tables, a residential-area sign and truck-weight limits are coming to East Crooked Lake Drive and Country Club Road in the Eustis area, addressing heavy cut-through truck traffic on a 25 mph residential road.
Saturday transit service and expanded hours
Riders asked for weekend and later service. A $96,496 grant (matched with advertising revenue, no new general-fund dollars) will launch Saturday service October 1, 2026, and evening hours added last October drew over 4,000 riders by February.
Vision Zero / Safety Action Plan and federal safety grant
The county adopted a Vision Zero goal and Safety Action Plan and will apply for a federal Safe Streets for All implementation grant to fund road safety projects.
