A 13-year Scottish Highlands resident opposed the carport variance, arguing it would alter neighborhood views, create backing-out safety risks, and invite a wave of copycat requests.

Another Scottish Highlands resident opposed the variance, saying homes in the community with carports generally don't have garages, and worried it would set an example others would follow.

The applicant's next-door neighbor spoke in favor, noting his own open-sided carport, his truck that can't fit his one-car garage, and that the open design blocks no views.
