Southwest Study Area

A Midtown resident relayed that a friend in the study area says road safety is the top issue — red-light running endangers students at night, and crosswalks near bus stops are atrocious. She welcomed the proposed density, saying Gainesville is unaffordable and students don't drive.

An owner of a single-family home in the area raised concerns about overgrown utility lots the city doesn't maintain, and worried aloud that redevelopment could mean her remodeled house gets bulldozed. Board Member Mermer reassured her no eminent domain is on the table.
