Historic designation application tied to beach archaeology

The beach parcel at 640 Seabreeze Boulevard is where the Third Fort Lauderdale — the fort the city is named for — stood in the 1830s-40s. Archaeologists found musket balls, military buttons, and a 230-year-old wooden post there, but the preservation board recommended denial 4-3 over fuzzy boundaries and a missing management plan. The City Commission gets the final say.
